Thank you very much to all the families who were able to visit during our Book Week Open Morning last Thursday.
As I visited classrooms and the Library, it was lovely to see the smiles on the children’s faces as they read and participated in activities with their families.
VET AND SPORTS AND RECREATION WITH LIAM MAW
What is Sports and Recreation?
Sports and Recreation is a program that allows you to assist, manage and run sporting sessions. You will focus on everything that goes into running sessions, like a risk management plan, maintain a clean working environment, and a session plan schedule. This will be offered when you are in Year 11 and 12.
What were we doing in Sports and Recreation?
In Sports and Recreation, we are working towards running sporting sessions in Primary schools. It starts with planning the activities and making sure the environment is safe while running the sessions. A major factor for our planning, is if the space and equipment available to us is suitable to run our programs.
What am I doing out at Molesworth?
I am working with Miss Gourlay to assist and observe how she plans and runs HPE classes, as well as other sporting events, such as cross-country and sporting excursions. By working with every grade, it helps me understand the capabilities of different ages. I have really enjoyed working across all the different students and grades while at Molesworth.
PREP/1 SCIENCE WEEK 2025: TRACKING TASSIE WILDLIFE!
As part of Science Week 2025, our curious Prep-One scientists explored the fascinating world of animal tracks and scat to learn how we can uncover secrets about local wildlife.
At our very own Molesworth Environment Centre, students investigated how different footprints and droppings can reveal an animal’s diet, habitat, and behaviours. We focused on how native Tasmanian animals move through various environments for different purposes. To bring this to life, students used their own feet or animal figurines to mimic the movement of a local animal, stepping across mock habitats to understand how animals leave clues behind.
Then, we headed outside to become real wildlife detectives—searching for signs of animal poo! Students examined different types of scat, piecing together stories about what the animals had eaten and where they had been. It was a hands-on, nose-wrinkling adventure that sparked plenty of laughter and learning! Our favourite scat of the day belonged to the Tasmanian Devil!
Science Week was a brilliant opportunity to get outdoors, connect with nature, and discover just how much you can learn from the things animals leave behind.

DENTAL HEALTH AT MOLESWORTH PRIMARY
What’s the best time to go to the dentist? Tooth hurty (2:30)!
Today, all classes were visited by Danielle, our school's amazing health nurse.
Danielle shared some important information with us about dental hygiene. Some of the most important messages for our students were: brushing our teeth twice a day using fluoride toothpaste, brushing our tongue and gums as well, brushing for 2 minutes, why we need to look after our teeth, and why having regular check-ups is important.
Tonight, quiz your children on the key aspects of dental hygiene, and they should be able to answer your questions.
Students received a Colgate dental kit to take home with them, along with some mouthwash.
Thank you, Danielle, for your amazing session with us.

BADMINTON TASMANIA COACH VISIT
On Monday, the 18th of August, the sun was out and it was a perfect day for Badminton! We had the pleasure of having Lasse Bundgaard come to Molesworth Primary School and run a Badminton Clinic. Lasse is a former National Australian Coach and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in coaching both senior and junior players, and it was a fantastic opportunity for our kids to be coached by him and to ask lots of questions! Lasse commented that he was seeing some really great badminton skills by our students.
Later this term, the Year 3/4 and 5/6 classes will travel to the Badminton Centre to have fun and put their skills to the test in a mini-tournament!

CHANGING OUR APPROACH TO TEACHING READING
You may have noticed some changes in the way we’re teaching reading in our school. These changes are part of a statewide commitment to ensure every student develops strong reading skills that will support them throughout school and beyond.
Learning to read is a skill that must be taught—it's not something we’re born knowing how to do. That’s why our teachers are using high-quality, evidence-based strategies to help every child become a confident reader.
Our students are learning to read through structured and explicit literacy teaching. This means they are building foundational literacy skills step by step, with each new skill reinforcing the last. This approach helps students grow into capable, independent readers.
We’re proud to be part of this statewide effort to provide structured literacy lessons that are proven to work. Thank you for your ongoing support as we help every student succeed.
