WHAT SAFETY MEANS ARTWORK EXHIBITION
Students from Molesworth Primary School responded to the question of “what safety means to me” in a special exhibition for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s Day for Daniel. Bruce and Denise Morcombe attended the official launch on Tuesday last week.
The Derwent Valley Day for Daniel Committee would like to pass on their enthusiasm over the artwork prepared by the students and all the thought that has gone into each and every piece. "They are all unique and together give the children a very powerful voice and tell a meaningful story". Thank you also was passed on to our staff for their input and encouragement and also to the SRC "well done to the girls for talking about their artwork and their interviewing".
The exhibition can be seen at the The Art House Café, 47A High St, New Norfolk, until November 22.
On Monday 11th November, our amazing 2024 Molesworth swim team travelled by bus to the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre. Unfortunately, due to sickness we only had a team of 13 which meant a lot of our swimmers swum in additional events! We did such an amazing job, showcasing our swimming skills and support of each other, finishing 5th.
I would like to say a massive thank you to Mrs Barber for assisting me in supervising our team in such a busy environment, thank you to our school community who came to support and encourage our kids, and to a previous Molesworth student, Amber Rainbird for stepping up last minute as our school official!
END OF YEAR FUNDRAISING RAFFLE
A huge thank you to our School Community for their generous donations towards our End of Year Fundraising Raffle. We have some wonderful prizes up for grabs, so get your tickets in before Friday 6th December to be in the draw. Additional raffle books are available from the School Office.
Special thanks to Williams Mitre 10, the Watson family, Next Level Wellness & Recovery Centre, Hydro Paws Healing, the Christie/Littlejohn family, Eve and Co Cafe, the Watt Family (Jo's Fresh Meats), Black Swan Cafe, The Hensby family, The Quilted Teapot, Claremont Village Newsagency and Banjos New Norfolk.
Congratulations to JB Flame (Jack, Baden, Freya, Lana, Amber, Maia and Ella) who competed in the FLL Challenge on Saturday the 9th November at Sacred Heart. It was great to see their support of one another and their thoughtful presentation in protection of our local waterways.
Last Friday November 15th, we held our first Jump Rope for Heart day. What an amazing day full of lots of different skipping skills!
Thank you to our school community who came to support our skippers and to all who were able to contribute. All money raised has been donated straight to the Heart Foundation.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: PRIMARY SCHOOL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT MOVED TO TERM 1
The basketball association is changing the Schools Basketball competition from Term 4 to Term 1 in 2025. This is a fabulous opportunity for students who play basketball but does require parental involvement for it to take place. Please read the information attached and if you are able to commit to supporting this please contact the school. When the information is finalised we will contact you directly.
A Strategic Change for a Smoother Year
As we start planning for next year, I wanted to give you an early heads-up about an important change to our 2025 tournament schedule, specifically regarding the Primary Schools Tournament. After careful consideration and input from schools, we’ve decided to move the tournament to Term 1, and I believe this will help alleviate some of the stress on the Term 4 calendar.
Here’s why we think this is a positive move:
- Term 4 Calendar Relief:The Term 4 calendar for basketball is already overflowing with activities, and we found it increasingly difficult to accommodate all tournaments without overloading the schedule. By moving the Primary Schools Tournament to Term 1, we can better manage the calendar and avoid scheduling conflicts
- Reduced End-of-Year Pressure:Term 4 is often a hectic time for schools, with many competing priorities like end-of-year assessments, celebrations, and other events. Shifting the tournament to the start of the year means fewer disruptions and less stress for schools trying to juggle multiple events.
- Referee Recruitment and Retention: One of the key benefits of this change is the opportunity it provides for referee recruitment and retention. By moving the tournament to Term 1, we can focus on building and training new officials earlier in the year, giving them more time to develop throughout the season. This early start also helps new referees feel more confident, which improves retention rates and keeps more officials engaged in the sport long-term.
- State Championships Opportunity: Moving the tournament to Term 1 also opens space in the basketball calendar to explore the option of reintroducing the State Championships for grades 5/6. This is still being explored and if confirmed will be a date in Term 4.
We did a survey with schools that participated this year, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with most schools indicating that the change would work for them. We understand this may not be ideal for everyone, but we believe the benefits of this change outweigh the challenges and will ultimately lead to a smoother, more manageable year for all involved.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we make this transition. We’re confident that this will lead to a more balanced and less stressful calendar, and we look forward to continuing to work together to create great experiences for our students.
All our students and staff stopped for a minutes silence at 11:00 am on the 11th Day of November to pay their respects to all of the Australians who were injured or fallen during war.
As we head toward the second half of term 4 we are beginning to plan for the 2025 school year, looking at staffing and class structures. In a school our size each student number impacts our staffing allocation which then impacts what classes we can offer next year. If you or someone you know are changing their plans for 2025 and may not be here or are moving into the area please contact the School Office so we make sure we do the very best we can for the benefits of all students here.
Once we have class structures finalised we then start looking at student placement which takes into consideration teacher judgement and observations about:
- The needs of the child (educational, social, emotional and behavioural)
- The balance of student abilities within the class
We value the support of our parent community and give you the opportunity to provide information in writing which you believe the school needs to know that will help in placing your child for 2025. Please email or send a letter to myself of your request by Friday 22nd November. The information given will be kept confidential.
If you would like to have a conversation about this I am very happy to meet to chat. Please check with the School Office to make a time or I am always out and about before school each day.
Regards,
Mrs Leanne Smith
Principal
WOOLWORTHS CRICKET BLAST AFTER SCHOOL SESSIONS WITH MOLESWORTH CRICKET CLUB
It was great to hear so many students attended the Cricket Blast session after school on Thursday. A reminder that these sessions are not part of the school day and children attending must be accompanied by an adult for supervision.
As after school care and bus students (until 3:00 pm) are here and use the playground all children attending the cricket need to stay on the oval area. There is one outside toilet that is open for after school care so is able to be used if required.
SUPPORTING ONLINE LEARNING AT HOME
To help families learn online at home, every family with children in kindergarten to year 10 are receiving a copy of Supporting online learning: a guide for families.
This guide provides families with information and advice about:
- school communication apps, such as Canvas Parent
- managing online privacy
- social media readiness
- effective online searching, and
- spending time online as a family.
Families are the most important influence and support for children and young people. Learning online at home builds life skills to succeed in today’s digital world.
Guides will be sent home tomorrow.
For more digital skills and support, please email digitalskillsforfamilies@libraries.tas.gov.au
HAVE YOUR SAY ON FOUNDATIONAL SUPPORTS
Governments are working together to design and deliver additional disability supports in the community.
These additional supports are called Foundational Supports and are separate to those delivered through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or mainstream services.
The Department of Social Services want feedback and ideas on how to design Foundational Supports for families and children aged under 9 in their care where there is a developmental concern, delay and/or disability.
Share your thoughts by:
- completing the online questionnaire or providing a submission
- adding a comment to the Ideas Wall
- joining the Tasmanian online workshop on Tuesday 19 November 7-9pm.
