2024 ST JOHNS FIRST AID IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM
Yesterday we were visited by Damian from St. Johns who delivered the St. John’s First Aid in Schools Program to our Prep to Year 6 students.
The program is designed to equip students with confidence and vital skills to help in an emergency. Through this program St. John Ambulance Tasmania is reaching its goal of making first aid part of every Tasmanian’s life. The program has 5 modules across primary and secondary schools. The knowledge and skills gained in yesterday’s sessions developed our first aid awareness and was a really good refresh from the skills we learnt last year.
Our early childhood students discussed what first aid is, checking for danger, who can help, calling an ambulance, how to assist someone with a nosebleed and burns, action plan DRS, and putting on roller and triangular bandages.
Our upper primary students discussed the action plan DRSABCD, who can help, calling an ambulance, managing an unconscious patient, practical CPR and defibrillation (AED) activities, managing open wounds and choking, how to use a face shield. At the end of their session they were given a face shield to take home!
If you ever need help at Molesworth we have some very knowledgeable first aider students who will be able to assist you!
We thank Damian for sharing his knowledge with us and to St. Johns for donating bandages and face shields for our students to take home with them.
AUSTRALIAN ANTARCTIC FESTIVAL 2024 - PENGUIN ROOKERIES
Almost 200 schools were each sent 50 cut-out Adelie penguins to paint and return to the Antarctic Festival. They are hoping to receive more than 10,000 penguin cut-outs hand painted by school children from all over Australia and overseas.
Students from Molesworth Primary School worked on their penguins at our last Outdoor Classroom "Art" Day and the Grade 3-4 class completed them in readiness for the exhibition.
This is a free exhibition starting on Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th August at MAC 2, 18 Hunter Street Hobart. Opening hours are Thurs-Fri 9:30 am - 2:00 pm and Sat-Sun 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Below is a program of loads of fun events and activitie being held over the four days.
