As we head towards the end of the Term, I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable break as you pop away the school uniforms for 2 weeks and enjoy non school days with your children.
This past term has been a very busy and productive term. I would like to thank all families for supporting our students here at Molesworth.
We will see everyone back on Monday 22nd July for a great Term 3.
Recycling Centre
If you have been at school at any time over the past few weeks you will have noticed the recycling centre has been removed. This is on school land and we are very grateful for the DV Council for looking after this space for us. A change is on its way. Veolia are bringing in bins for recycling and they will look after the space and empty them on a regular basis. This is great for the community that we have a recycling centre for glass, plastics, paper and cardboard.
Please look after this space and only put in the bins the correct recycling as if the bins are contaminated with other waste they will close it all together. It was very sad to see the rubbish dumped there last week. It is a beautiful environment out here at Molesworth and we want to make sure we keep it as it is.
TASMANIAN JACK JUMPERS VISIT 2024
Last Friday Molesworth were super lucky to have a visit from the Tasmanian Jack Jumpers!
What an amazing opportunity. We had some awesome skills and game sessions with two of their community coaches, Lewis, Nick and of course Jack the mascot! Huon Aquaculture also offered our students a brunch of fruit skewers and salmon tacos. Yummy! For some students it was their first taste of salmon.
Thank you so much Tasmanian Jack Jumpers and Huon Aquaculture for running such a fun morning for our students!
During each session, the coaches chose students who were encouraging others and really giving the activities a go, these students were given a Jack Jumpers frisbee or playing cards and all students received a jersey to take home!
Lots of clothing and items in our lost property.
Please check as soon as possible as after the school holidays any unclaimed items will be added to our second hand uniform rack. Thank you.
WHAT I WANT TO BE WHEN I GROW UP
Last Thursday the SRC held a fundraising "What do you want to be when you are older?" dress up day. Money raised is going towards an end of year gift from the Grade 6's to the school. As you can see we saw a wonderful range of professions and ideas from our students. Well done everyone.
SWISHERR HOOPS GRADE 6 EXCURSION
On Wednesday 26th June, Our Grade 6 students travelled to the Swisherr Hoops Basketball centre in Hobart!
Our students participated in basketball skill and game activities. We learnt some new activities and played some old favourites. Thank you to the Swisherr team and to Coach Zoe, Coach Caleb and Coach Alex for running our sessions.
On the last day of this term, July 5th, it will be our Grade 3/4 class's turn to travel to Swisherr Hoops!
Here are some highlights from our Year 6 students:
- Lachlan – Playing 2 vs 2 with Jack on my team was awesome!
- Amber – I enjoyed the shooting game we played. I got 4 shots in.
- Aiden – I loved the shooting drills.
- Heidi – trying to get my shots in was very challenging.
- Jack R – I got one of the students out in the game of goldenchild.
- Charlotte – I enjoyed the shooting drills.
GRADE 4-5 WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL EXCURSION
Today our Year 4/5 class travelled to Moonah Sports Stadium to participate in wheelchair basketball.
Our students had a lot of fun participating in the warm up activities and the wheelchair basketball games. To begin with they thought it would be really easy but actually found manoeuvring around in the games quite challenging!
The session was run in collaboration with Richard from Para Quad Tasmania and we thank him for this amazing opportunity for our students.
To finish the session, Richard spoke to us about disabilities and how we should treat people who live with a disability.
Here are some comments from our students:
- Alex S – moving around in the wheelchair was fun but it would be hard being in a wheelchair all the time.
- Peppa – I enjoyed playing wheelchair basketball.
- Kaiah – I found it challenging to start with to get used to it.
- Henry – It was hard moving around in the wheelchair. During one of the wheelchair basketball games I scored a goal.
- Adam - I enjoyed moving for the ball in the wheelchair.
On the 20/6/24 my class went on an excursion, to start the day we went to the MEC. Mrs Young told us about introduced and native plants and trees. Then we started our walk.
We walked up to Davey’s Place. On the way in one of the dams there was a platypus but the platypus was a scaredy-cat. It kept ducking its head under and then it finally came out and then it went back under, then we kept walking.
We stopped and sat down and Mrs Young gave us a bag with a set of secateurs so we set out looking for samples of native and introduced plants and trees.
After that we walked to Devil’s Den. On the way Mrs Young told us about how much bush fires can hurt the wildlife and the bush, but she also was talking about how bush fires can help the bush. Someone also mentioned that raptors pick up little bits of fire on sticks and drop them in different places to flush out all the mice. So we kept walking, on the way 3 of us fell over.
We kept walking then after a while we got to our destination (Devil’s Den). Mrs Young asked us if we wanted to have a play at Devil’s Den or go back for lunch but most of us said play so we stayed to have a little play.
After that Mrs Young got us to sit down on the wood She said we could get more samples then we walked back to the MEC. So we ate lunch then we went into the MEC and sorted our samples into introduced and native.
