Congratulations to our elected Grade 6 Leaders for Term 1 and Term 2. Our Sports Leaders supported our Athletics Carnival last week as their first event. They spoke so well and encouraged all to take part and do their best.
Our SRC held their first ice cream day last Friday and almost sold out. They are having regular meetings and are coming up with lots of ideas.
Out in our yard we see lots of students enjoying their recess and lunch times. We are always looking for new ideas so please encourage your children to take any new ideas to the SRC representatives. We are always looking for ways to make Molesworth even better for all the students here.
As we are catching up on the last couple of students to complete their NAPLAN testing this year I would like to congratulate all grade 3 and 5 students for their approach to the testing and the focus and effort they put in to doing their very best. This year we will receive the results much earlier than previous years and the information from these will support us to support your child’s learning. Well done everyone.
Sadly our beautiful old willow tree near the fire tank has come to the end of its life. We can no longer guarantee that it will not drop larger limbs so for the safety of all we are having it removed. The tree company removing it will keep as many of the logs as they can and they will be added to our playground. We know that this tree gives great shade so this was a very tough decision to make.
Throughout the rest of this term and into next term we are having a two week focus on each of the 5 DECYP values. Check out our responses to what is "Respect" on our noticeboard.
Last Wednesday 13th March we had our Grade 3-6 Athletics Carnival! What a day we had!
Ashley, Seth and Haley spoke amazingly and introduced themselves as our Sport Leaders for 2024. Everyone participated fantastically and should feel proud of their efforts.
Thank you to our school community for coming and cheering on our students! I know they appreciate your support.
Thank you to the sport leaders, all our wonderful staff and especially Mr Rogers, Mrs Barber and Ms Bennett is assisting in the setting up and packing up of our carnival gear. Also to Mr Peter Jelkic who was able to assist Mr Warman and Mr Rogers with our field events at very short notice.
Yesterday we finished off the last field event with our Grade 5 and 6’s doing their vortex throw. Thank you to Mr Rogers for assisting me during recess time to get our last event finished!
The SPSSA Division D Athletics Carnival will be on Thursday 28th March. Miss Gourlay is just making some final tweaks to our team but it is looking like we will have a strong team of just over 40 Molesworth athletes! We wish them the best of luck as they compete against 7 other schools at the Domain Athletics Centre. Permission forms will be sent home this week.
SRC & SPORTS LEADERS - TERMS 1 AND 2
On Monday at Meet and Greet we introduced the SRC and Sports Leaders for Terms 1 and 2. We have a great mix of students who will do their best to fulfill their role.
We would like to congratulate Ella, Lachlan, Freya and Charlotte who were voted in to be our SRC representatives.
Congratulations as well to Seth, Haley and Ashley on being selected sports leaders.
ORIENTEERING TASMANIA COACH VISIT
Rest assured if you ever get lost at Molesworth Primary our students will be able point you in the right direction!
Yesterday we were visited by Orienteering Coach Will. We discussed and explored what Orienteering is, navigational skills using a map, sometimes with the assistance of a compass, navigating on a vast range of terrain whilst moving at speed and reaching checkpoints!
We played some orienteering races, discussed directions and navigation, practised our compass reading skills, matched orienteering symbols and pictures, used maps to navigate ourselves to get to checkpoints around our school and we also used electronic orienteering equipment!
We look forward to Will’s next visit with us!
Later this term we will be having an Orienteering excursion with a couple of our classes putting their Orienteering skills to the test at Tolosa Park where there will be an Orienteering course set up for us! Our students will put their Orienteering skills to the test as they navigate around the park to find checkpoints in teams.
We would like to pass on a big thank you to Jane from Orienteering Tasmania for organising specialist coaches to run these sessions with us!
If you are interested in Orienteering and exploring this sport, there are a lot of permanent courses around Tasmania and lots of events throughout the year. If you would like more information about Orienteering, check out the following Orienteering website as it has a lot of great information: https://tasorienteering.asn.au/
Dear Parent/Carer,
Our School will be switching over to a new messaging platform for communicating with you. This will replace our current system.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
You will receive a text message and/or an email with further details. Note, the text message sender will be a shortened version of our school’s name - Please keep an eye out for it!
Further information is available on the Department’s website
