FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MRS LEANNE SMITH
Wow, Week 7 is already half way through. Only three weeks until term break. Thanks to all families who continue to support the current guidelines around physical distancing. With the early introduction of Stage 2 we are hopeful that Stage 3 will be in place ready for Term 3. We will let all families know of any changes as soon as we are informed. Continue to stay connected to your child’s class and teacher through Seesaw.
Some wonderful examples of learning shared via seesaw this week:
- The Kinders have been busy completing self-portraits on wood ready to be displayed in the kinder playground.
- The preps were looking at the letter P and Finn found lots of items around his house.
- Some grade 1/2's were busy planning a new town while Adam published his own board game.
- The grade 2/3's shared their wonderings for today – “I wonder why Miss Gourlay is setting up for PE on a Wednesday? and “What is a good sport?, just to name a couple.
- The grade 3/4's have been busy settling back in with Mr Hay and completing their bug art.
- The grade 4/5's shared who they think are real super heroes.
- The grade 5/6's have been reflecting on the book Holes.
As we head towards the end of term teachers are busy preparing a brief report of your child’s learning in English, Maths and Wellbeing so far this year and their future learning. The midyear report will be sent home in the last week of term and will look quite different to the usual report. At the moment we will not be having parent-teacher interviews but you are more than welcome to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
This week Tenders for the building contract closed and we are currently reviewing and finalising who the successful tender will be. The plan is to begin work at the end of this term and in week 10 the Preps will move to their new room opposite the library. As more details are finalised we will keep everyone informed.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YEAR 2-3 JACOBSON
Our first two weeks back to face to face learning have been filled with enjoyment, excitement and a whole new appreciation for cooperating with others in our learning space. We have been having meaningful discussion in relation to Reconciliation Week and the importance of respecting each other despite our differences. We had the pleasure of having Mrs Smith challenge our thoughts by sharing a book that left each of us wondering who am I? It helped us to realise that we are all from the same place, and made up of the same stuff, but see ourselves as individuals.
We continue to learn about respect by learning about the difference between ‘Welcome to Country’ and ‘Acknowledgement of Country’ and why it is important to acknowledge the relationship between traditional Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander custodians and the land. Together we created a leaf collage using a range of different symbols, colour, line and pattern to represent the parts of the land as part of our own acknowledgement of country.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN PREP WITH MISS J
The Preps have been investigating what makes things Fizz, Foam or Pop. We made some bubble mix and observed how the soap and water mixed together to make the outside skin of a bubble that held the air until it popped.
Here is some of our thinking and observations.
- Chelsea The bubble couldn’t hold the air and it popped.
- Grace: Wherever I walked or turned the bubble disappeared.
- Kailee: If you blew a little bit hard it popped.
- Esther: You could make lots of bubbles. It was incredible.
- Archie: The bubbles didn’t always pop when they hit the ground as the bubble skin stayed strong.
- Nick: The air makes the bubble inside the soap and water.
- Henry: I figured out my finger opened the air inside the bubble.
The SRC are up and running again selling Icy-Poles and Ice-Creams every Thursday from the roller door at the top of the ramp near the Prep room. Last week was very successful and this will be running every week until further notice. The proceeds from this goes towards the Year 6 Leavers Day in Term 4.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN KINDER WITH MRS McCAUSLAND
Kinder Unicorns are very happy to be back at school, playing with our buddies and exploring the world around us at Molesworth. We have embraced the cooler weather and loved being out and about in our wonderful gumboots - they are especially good for jumping and digging! We have loved building on our friendships developed throughout the year and we have quickly settled into being part of the Kinder Unicorn team.
GREAT AUSTRALIAN CROSS COUNTRY CHALLENGE 2020
Throughout the months leading up to the completion date of the challenge, we will be participating in Cross Country practice during our PE lessons however it is up to parents and carers if they wish to register their child/children in the challenge. As we are not running our normal school Cross Country Carnival this year, after the completion of the challenge we will be selecting the 4 students with the fastest times from each grade who have registered to receive a school ribbon.
Registration details:
Step 1 Register – to register for GACCC head to https://raceroster.com/registration/31454/entry. When completing your registration under the ‘Add registrant to a team?’ heading select ‘Yes, add this registrant to a team created by someone else’, select ‘School (TAS)’ and then from the next drop down menu you will find ‘Molesworth Primary School’. We have to also include a ‘house’ please put ‘red’. Enter our school Promotion Code at the bottom of the entry page and this will deduct the cost of registration.
Upon registration you will receive a Virtual Bib, Virtual Medal, Digital Finisher’s certificate, access to great health and training trips from ambassadors and a chance to win prizes from ASICS. Finisher medals can be purchased for $12 at time of registration.
Step 2 Run/Walk – run, walk, stroll or roll your wall through your age division distance, using your mobile or watch to track your distance and time.
Step 3 Record – visit the results hub at www.gaccc.com.au to upload your results and see where you are coming in your region state and around Australia!
How do you even know I’ve run the distance? When you submit your results, the GACCC ask you to include a screenshot of the route you ran. To be eligible for age group medals and prizes, you must record your run through a smart phone or smart watch. We recommend the RunKeeper APP which is free to download and integrates seamlessly with our results system. For more information visit www.gacc.com.au
Olympian and Great Australian Cross Country Challenge ambassador Milly Clark has created a great article to give you some knowledge of what nutrition runners require to power themselves as they train for endurance sporting events. https://gaccc.com.au/nutrition -for-runners/
Please note we no longer need to download the run keeper app to upload a map of where your child ran/walked!
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact the school office ON 6261 2091.
