STAFFING AND CLASS STRUCTURES
As we head toward the second half of term 4 we are beginning to plan for the 2024 school year, looking at staffing and class structures. In a school our size each student number impacts our staffing allocation which then impacts what classes we can offer next year. If you or someone you know are changing their plans for 2024 and may not be here or are moving into the area please contact the office so we make sure we do the very best we can for the benefits of all students here.
Once we have class structures finalised we then start looking at student placement which takes into consideration teacher judgement and observations about:
- The needs of the child (educational, social, emotional and behavioural)
- The balance of student abilities within the class
We value the support of our parent community and give you the opportunity to provide information in writing which you believe the school needs to know that will help in placing your child for 2024. Please email or send a letter to myself of your request by Friday 25th November. The information given will be kept confidential. If you would like to have a conversation about this I am very happy to meet to chat. Please check with the office to make a time or I am always out and about before school each day.
A massive thank you to Lauren, Caedance and Zara from Cricket Tasmania, for running a cricket afternoon for our Prep to Year 4 students on Tuesday. This visit was in collaboration with the Molesworth Cricket Club.
The purpose of their visit was to show our students the different types of activities the Molesworth Cricket Club will include in their afterschool program that is starting today. We practised our cricket skills of bowling, aiming, hitting and of course, having fun!
If you are interested in registering your child/children into the Molesworth Cricket Club Cricket Blast Program, please see attached flyer for more information. For financial assistance, please visit the ticket to play website.
To continue with our focus on bike and road safety, last Tuesday, Hayley from the RACT Road Safe Program came to visit us!
Each session had 4 learning modules including how to be a safe passenger, safe when riding a bike/scooter/skateboard and what road safety signs are telling us. One of the key messages from the program for pedestrians crossing the road:
- Stop (when you get to the intersection or road you are crossing)
- Look both ways (for oncoming traffic)
- Listen (for movement/cars/bikes)
- Think (is it safe to cross)
Classes watched short videos, participated in online games where we moved our characters depending on what dice we rolled and if we answered the road safe questions correctly.
All of our Grade 3 to 6 students received a login (username and password) so they can access resources at school, and if you have a device at home you are able to access the resources, videos and games at home. Feel free to explore the videos, activities and games as a family!
Our Prep to Grade 2 students participated in the ‘Yippee!’ program, which is the step before the Road Safe Program. Our students participated in some walking challenges using stop signs, zebra crossings, crossing guards, traffic lights, cars and pedestrians. The game tested their road safe knowledge! At the end of these sessions, Hayley read the Yippee! book and each student in Prep/1 and Grade 1/2 received the book to take home.
We would like to thank Hayley and the RACT team for coming out to Molesworth and sharing important key safety messages to our students, and of course the wonderful Yippee! picture books.
DIVISION F SPSSA SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Yesterday, 16 of our most excellent swimmers travelled to the Doone Kennedy Aquatic Centre to represent Molesworth Primary School in the SPSSA Division F Swimming Carnival.
Molesworth were swimming in lane 1 this year, and as we were competing in the 25m pool at the top of the venue, it was the best lane for our spectators to cheer on our team!
Congratulations to every one of our 16 swimmers. Trying your best for the whole day! A fantastic opportunity for you to demonstrate your swimming abilities and to compete against other students your age.
Thank you to our school community who came out all the way to the Doone Kennedy Aquatic Centre to support our swimmers! Thank you very much to Mr Peter Jelkic who was our volunteer school official at the carnival. Mr Jelkic was a judge, a very important role at these carnivals.
From the SPSSA division swimming carnivals, students are invited to the SPSSA Champions swimming carnival which will be held on Tuesday 28th November. As soon as the other divisional swimming carnivals are completed, we will find out if any of our swimmers have been invited. Stay tuned for an update!
Another fantastic day with families sharing wonderful outdoor activities with their children. Thanks to all the families who were able to drop in during the morning. Lots of photos are displayed in our notice board outside the hall with the students’ thoughts about the day.
EMPOWERED KIDS - RAISING RESLIENT CHILDREN - LISA FORD
Last night Lisa presented another thought provoking presentation about how children develop their neural pathways to support the development of those executive functions of problem solving, emotional regulation, reasoning and resilience. Two great messages she shared were about giving child time and space to feel an emotion, approaching with empathy and supporting them to own their emotion and think about how things could be different next time. Thank you to the families who were able to attend last night even on such a rainy night.
2023 BASKETBALL TASMANIA PRIMARY SCHOOL REGIONAL TOURNAMET
Congratulations to the boys who competed in the Primary School Regional Basketball Tournamet over the Show Day long weekend. A very big thank you to Hepburn family for their commitment to organising the tournament and also for the support and guidance they gave to our grade 5/6 boys over the weekend.
