WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING THIS WEEK!
After a very chilly morning it was lovely to see the sun out for the afternoon.
This week for Science week there have been lots of experiments and conversations happening in classrooms including the 5/6 classes visiting New Norfolk High for their Science Expo. Tomorrow we have 3 visiting scientists talking with the grade prep to Grade 4 classes.
Next Thursday is our next open morning for Book Week where families are invited to visit their child’s classroom between 9:00 am and 10:30 am to share in their literacy learning and celebrate the amazing award winning books for 2023. The library will be open before school and the coffee van will be back again.
At School Association last week we shared information about seeking a provider for afterschool care at Molesworth. Tomorrow a form will be sent out through Schoolzine about this. Please ensure you read and complete if this applies to you and submit by by Friday 1st September.
Yesterday afternoon was amazing! We were lucky enough to have the Cricket Tasmania Community Blitz visit our Prep to Year 4 classes. We met one of the current Tasmanian Tiger Roar players, Iain Carlisle, a player from the Hobart Hurricanes BBL team, Lawrence Neil-Smith, and a player from the Hobart Hurricanes WBBL team, Naomi Stalenberg.
The players ran through some skills with us, played some games with us and answered our questions! Each student received a flyer and the players autographed them. They also received a Captains Hurricane’s magnet, how special!
Brad Coppleman and Nick Piuselli from Molesworth Cricket Club was also present at the session and shared with us information about a come and try day they are hosting in September and their afterschool program they will be offering at our school in Term 4. Please see attached flyers for more information.
Thank you to Lauren from Cricket Tasmania who assisted in organising the players visiting our school for an awesome afternoon!
For the past 4 weeks all classes have been focusing on the game of netball, learning about the history, the skills involved, working collaboratively and the rules of the game. Our older classes have been learning about the different playing positions on the netball court.
Yesterday, Tuesday August 16th our 5/6R class jumped onto the bus and travelled out to the Southern Tasmania Netball Association (STNA) courts out at Creek Road to tour the facility and check out all of the different courts and to put their netball knowledge to the test! It was really amazing to see our students apply their skills to game situations, being in the correct positions and working together as a team. I was really blown away with how far our skills have progressed particularly with our footwork on the netball court and communication to each other. Thank you to Mrs Roberts, Mrs Watson and Maddy for accompanying our teams and assisting in umpiring and coaching.
On Friday we have our 5/6S class travelling to the courts with Mrs Barber and Mrs Bell for the students of 5/6S to have their turn! I am really looking forward to these students showing me what they have learnt over the past 4 weeks.
Thank you to STNA for allowing us to use your facility.
If you need some netball coaching, be sure to ask one of our future netball stars!
MOLESWORTH MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY (MMAG)
Families, students and staff lined up in their masses last week to enjoy a tour through the pop up museum and art gallery in the 1/2 WM classroom. On display were student inventions, artwork using collage, pastel and watercolour and an archaeological dig including the artefacts and stories discovered through the student’s investigations into culture and history.
Visitors raved about the experience with the highlight being private tours conducted by the artists and archaeologists.
We have a lot of second hand logoed and generic uniform here in the School Office that parents have kindly donated to pass on to anyone who is short of supplies for their children. Please feel free to pop in and have a look through what we have between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
GRADE 5-6 CLASSES STEM EXCURSION
Today Grades 5-6R and 5-6S travelled to New Norfolk High School for the STEM Expo.
We did all types of activities like flying drones, making sherbert and looking at dry ice and watching other cool stuff.
Both classes had a fun time and we hope to do it again.
