It's lovely to see the sun out today and the wind of earlier in the week having settled. On Monday night we lost a large wattle tree from behind the skip bin area near the paths to the bridges, unfortunately it took out a couple of blackwoods with it. Last night and today Mr Mathew Clements has been removing the fallen trees and trimming the others to make sure they are all safe and secure where they are. A very big thank you to Mathew and Laura for responding so quickly and doing an amazing job in this area. Some of the stumps and trunk blocks we have used in our playground for extra seats and blocks for students to sit on and walk between.
CHESS CLUB
Today we started the Term 3 chess sessions at lunch time. If you would like your child to participate, please register through their website.
CHOIR
During lunch on Mondays, Mr Warman is taking choir for any students to join and celebrate the joy of singing with a group. On Monday just gone lots of curious students attended an information session and they had lots of questions answered. It will be wonderful to hear groups singing each week and in time performing for our community.
TREE PLANTING DAY
A huge thank you to Mrs Young and Mrs MacGregor for all their organisation prior to the tree planting on Monday. When we arrived at school it was wet and windy and we weren’t sure what we would be able to do. Lani and Trish modified the places and the times for students to participate and by the end of the day we had 140 plants in the ground, mulched and protected with guards around them. Many thanks to the family members that were able to attend and braved the cold to support the improvement of our grounds with all the plants added to our oval and the area near the buildings. Keep an eye out in the newsletter for the next stage of planting along the creek and the tracks we use. All help is very much appreciated.
BOOK WEEK – Mark this day in your calendar.
On Thursday 24th August is our open morning to celebrate reading and the CBCA shortlisted book of 2023. All families are warmly invited to visit any time on the 24th between 8:45 and 10:30 am. The coffee van will be here from 8:00 am and the library will be set up for families to visit at anytime from 8:00 am. Drop in and share a book and activity with your children. Celebrate the love of reading.
This term we welcome Mrs Lora Warman on 3/4H as Mr Hay enjoys the term of being a dad to Jesse, an adorable little boy. Mrs Warman has settled in at Molesworth very quickly and there is so much amazing learning happening in the class.
ST JOHNS FIRST AID IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM
Yesterday we switched soccer for bandages! We were visited by Margaret from St. Johns who delivered the St. John’s First Aid in Schools Program to our Prep to Year 6 students.
The program is designed to equip students with confidence and vital skills to help in an emergency. Through this program St. John Ambulance Tasmania is reaching its goal of making first aid part of every Tasmanian’s life. The program has 5 modules across primary and secondary schools. The knowledge and skills gained in yesterday’s sessions developed our first aid awareness and was a really good refresher of the skills we learnt last year.
Our early childhood students discussed what first aid is, checking for danger, who can help, calling an ambulance, how to assist someone with a nosebleed and burns, action plan DRS, and putting on roller and triangular bandages. They were also given roller and triangular bandages to take home.
Our upper primary students discussed the action plan DRSABCD, who can help, calling an ambulance, managing an unconscious patient, practical CPR and defibrillation (AED) activities, managing open wounds and choking, how to use a face shield. At the end of their session they were given a face shield to take home!
If you ever need help at Molesworth we have some very knowledgeable first aider students who will be able to assist you!
We thank Margaret for sharing her knowledge with us and to St. Johns for donating bandages and face shields for our students to take home with them.
NAIDOC WEEK CELEBRATIONS
At the end of last term, Prep-One were learning and celebrating NAIDOC Week by discussing the importance of Elders in communities, being respectful and acknowledged our differences by using oil pastel to represent ourselves. This was an opportunity to notice our similarities and difference and how these contribute to our identity as a person.
NATIONAL TREE DAY 2023
On Monday the 31st of July, the Prep-One team joined the Molesworth Environment Centre to participate in caring for our country and celebrate National Tree Day. We did this by planting a number of native trees at the bottom of the oval in the hope of enhancing our environment. We enjoyed learning outdoors, digging in the dirt and getting our hands dirty, helping our local area and preparing future habitats for insects, birds and small animals. Throughout the day we realised trees should be celebrated for so many reasons and here are some of them:
- I like how big trees grow – Manu
- Trees are so useful and help us to build homes – Archie
- They help nature because they grow and provide food for animals – Bobbee
- I like climbing on trees! – Sid
- I like how high they are – Deegan
- Trees help bugs by giving them places to hide from predators – Mia
Thank you to Mrs Young, Mrs McGregor and Prep-One families for supporting and helping us make our school a healthier and more sustainable place!
139 AND COUNTING!!!
On Monday the 31st of August students and school community members planted 139 grasses, shrubs and trees in our school grounds.
A huge thank you to all of the enthusiastic students, friends and families of the school who came and helped on the day.
Thank you also to Planet Ark for the grant of $2500 to cover the costs of the plants and tree guards and the Derwent Catchment Project organisation for supplying some of the plants and Karen Phillips to assist with her knowledge and expertise in native plants.
We look forward to watching them grow and seeing what wildlife they attract to the school grounds.
There will be another tree day in the near future to plant along the creek bank. Stay tuned if you’d like to be involved.
SRC AND SPORTS LEADERS - TERMS 3 AND 4 2023
On Monday at Meet and Greet we introduced the new SRC and Sports Leaders for Term 3 and 4. We have a great mix of students that wanted to continue and those new that were voted in.
We would like to congratulate Palasa, Laurie, Brontee and Henry who were voted in to be SRC representatives.
Congratulations as well to Holly, Addison and James on being selected Sports Leaders.
They have already been busy this week offering a fund raiser to celebrate National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day this Friday.
2023 MOLESWORTH ENVIRONMENT CENTRE ART PRIZE
Thank you to all the students who entered the 2023 Quoll Art Competition. We hope that everyone understands more about these unique and wonderful native animals and can spread the word about how we can keep them safe, especially when driving at night.
Congratulations to Reevie and Toby who were the winners for the Early Childhood and Primary categories. Special mention also goes to Thomas, Levi, Scarlett, Emillia, Peppa, Freya and Ziva for being awarded Highly Commended in each grade.
