WOW THE END OF TERM 3 ALREADY!!
Yesterday we ran our first assembly for over 2 years. A very big thank you to all families who were able to attend to watch the amazing presentations from each class. Keep an eye out for a video of the items from the assembly on Seesaw.
This week we farewell and thank Mrs Gilbert for this term on Grade 4/5. I know the class have gained so much with Mrs Gilbert for the 3 days a week. Mrs Gilbert has many commitments next term so finished up this week. We will still see here from time to time when she is able to do relief. Next term we welcome Mrs Shelley Binning who will be on the Grade 4/5 class on Monday – Wednesday. Mrs Binning is very much looking forward to joining our amazing school. I’m sure everyone will make her feel very welcome.
As we head into Term 4 can I please remind parents to check in with Schoolzine and our calendar on the web page as that is updated with events as soon as they are confirmed. We already have so many days booked for different classes including our Whole School Athletics Carnival and our Presentation Assembly.
I wish all our families a fantastic 2 weeks break and look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 17th October for a short first week because Thursday is Royal Hobart Show Day and Friday is a student free day.
GRADE 4-5 AND 5-6 NORTHERN SUBURBS TABLE TENNIS PE EXCURSION
On Tuesday 27th of September our Year 4-5 and 5-6 students travelled to the Glenorchy YMCA, the home of the Northern Suburbs Table Tennis club!
Our students applied their table tennis skills playing singles and doubles matches. They scored and umpired each other’s games. Such a great experience for our students to go into the community and connect with local sporting clubs!
Here are some comments from our table tennis players:
- Abbie - it was fun because everyone kept hitting the table tennis balls back!
- Violet - I got one point! I was playing against Ria and Abbie.
- Tyson - I liked hitting the table tennis balls.
- Alex E - I was with Mitchell, Darci, Alexia and Arabella. The longest rally we had was 6!
We would like to say a big thank you to Roger from the Northern Suburbs Table Tennis club for organising our booking and helping us on our excursion! Thank you to our helpers for assisting us on our excursion and for putting their table tennis skills to the test too - Ms J Bennett, Mrs S Barber, Mrs L Duncombe, Ms M Lloyd and Mr J Cowley.
If you are interested in participating in Table Tennis, Roger welcomed everyone to the Thursday night social sessions. For more information about session times, costs and programs, here is the Northern Suburbs Table Tennis Clubs’ website: http://nsttl.org.au/
GRADE 2-3 AND 3-4 GLENORCHY TENNIS CLUB PE EXCURSION
On Thursday 15th September our Grade 2/3 and 3/4 students jumped on the bus and headed to the Glenorchy Tennis Club in Berridale to play some awesome tennis!
Our students were able to apply their tennis skills and scoring knowledge to singles and doubles matches at a local tennis club. We practised trapping the ball and then advancing to returning the ball after a bounce without trapping. At the end of our session, each student received a certificate of participation from Tennis Tasmania!
As I write this article, I have a heavy heart as I read that tennis legend, Roger Federer is retiring later this year. But I know the tennis future is bright after seeing our kid’s skills in action on our excursion!
Here are some comments from our tennis super stars:
- Toby - we got to do rallies and trap serving.
- Archie - I found trapping the ball difficult because I am used to hitting it!
- Henry - I enjoyed the trapping!
- Amelia - I have two favourite things; my Dad came and the trapping of the ball
- Chelsea - I enjoyed being on Sonny H’s team.
We would like to say a big thank you to Jordan and Matt from Tennis Tasmania for setting up courts, organising our bookings and coaching us! Thank you to Mrs Maw for assisting us on our excursion and to our parent helpers, Mrs Laura Duncombe and Mr Trent Saunders, Mr Andy McLean!

TERM 4 SWIMMING TRIALS AND WATER SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY PROGRAM
Sometimes you have to just seas the day!
The weather is getting warmer just in time for our swimming trials and swimming and water safety program in Term 4!
Our swimming trials will be held at the New Norfolk Swimming Pool on the Friday 28th October, Week 2 of Term 4 from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm. Our students will have the option of participating in the following events: 20m and 50m freestyle, 25m breastroke, 25m aquatic underarm, 25m backstroke and the much anticipated 25m noodle race! Our swimming trials are optional, and we encourage our students who are confident 25m swimmers to come along for some swim-pressive swimming and fun at the New Norfolk pool.
From Monday 21st November to Friday 1st December, Weeks 6 and 7 of Term 4, we will be running our Swimming and Water Safety Program for 2022 at the New Norfolk Swimming Pool. This is compulsory for our grades 3, 4, and 5 students. This program supports our students to become competent swimmers and be water safe. The program has a strong emphasis on water safety. This includes boat safety, using personal floatation devices, survival swimming, reach to rescues, entreating aquatic environments safely, stroke development and building swimming stamina.
As per our new schools new Sun Smart Policy 2022, all students must wear a rash-vest or t-shirt when swimming outdoors. As our swimming trials and swimming and water safety program are held at the New Norfolk Swimming Pool all students will need to wear either a rash-vest or t-shirt.
