FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MRS LEANNE SMITH
As we move through week 8 of the term we are receiving more phone calls of students who are either positive for COVID-19 or are close contacts. Thank you to all parents and carers for letting the school know when this impacts their families. We are sending out login details for each student who is away to connect to the Virtual Learning Centre. I can definitely recommend connecting your children to this site. There is a wealth of learning opportunities within it which are set at the grade level of your child, including 2 live sessions each day. If you have any issues with connecting to the site please contact the School Office.
I understand for all families this is a time of uncertainty and worry. Please be assured that if your child is symptom free the best place for them to be is at school. We have all the COVID safe protocols in place here at Molesworth and all staff are doing everything possible to keep school life as normal and as safe a possible.
A great quick under 2 minute video talks about how to talk to your child about COVID-19. https://youtu.be/Pi-M9I5jIfY
If you have any questions please contact the School Office and I am more than happy to talk with you. Other useful tips include - Supporting health and wellbeing during COVID-19 and the Wellbeing page.
There are always RATs that can be collected from the School Office if you need any more for your children.
School Association
Thanks to the parents who were nominated for School Association. Congratulations to Ms Jess Burns and Mrs Anna Hemsley who were nominated and accepted to continue as committee members. Congratulations to Mrs Brittany Hayden who accepted her nomination to join the committee for this year. We still have 1 vacancy for a 2 year position on the committee. If you are interested please contact the School Office for a nomination form. The School Association are representatives for your voice, it would be great to have all positions filled. Last night at the AGM Ms Jess Burns was elected as Chair, Mrs Kara Cowley as Deputy Chair and Mrs Telisa Baker as Secretary/Treasurer. Congratulations to all.
School Photos are next week, all ordering this year is via the online QR code sent home a few weeks ago. If you need that replaced please contact the School Office and they will give you the details of the photographer.

2022 SPORTS LEADERS REPORT - SPSSA ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Good afternoon everyone I hope you all are having a great day. Today we just wanted to talk about the Interschool Athletics Carnival and what happened on the day.
We went on Friday the 18/3/2022. There were 44 kids from Molesworth that went. We were up against five different schools. It was a little cold on the day but we are sure that we all warmed up after all the events we had. We were all so nervous in the morning, but we started to calm down as we raced. We all did a great job. Everyone was so tired after all the running they did. All the events went well. Our school placed 5th but that didn’t matter as long as we all had fun on the day.

Keep an eye out, we have hockey superstars here at Molesworth, and you might see them on your TV screens as part of the Hockeyroos or Kookaburras teams in the future!
Thank you to Will from Tas Hockey who visited us at Molesworth over the last two weeks teaching us new skills and developing the skills we had in our skill set! We talked about safety when playing hockey, how to correctly hold the stick, how to safely hit the ball, dribble, pass to a friend and how to tackle someone else for possession of the ball. We put our skills to the test in some new activities and modified hockey games. Will was really impressed by the attitude and skill of all of our students!
Here are some comments from some of our Molesworth superstars:
- Amber – I liked playing the ‘friends and no friends’ game
- Braiden – I loved knock out!
- Charlotte – I enjoyed the circle game when we had to jab tackle.
- Seth – I was good at the hockey dribble.
- Zac – I liked when we had to hit the ball sideways and to my friends.
- Olivia – I enjoyed hitting sideways.
- Jacob – I liked hitting it far!
- Theo – I liked hitting the hockey ball.
- Kyeshia – I enjoyed dribbling practise.
- Bryce – I like switching it up between activities. Not just focusing on the one thing.
- Reevie – I thought it was fun!
- Henry – We played a really fun game at the end of our class.
- Chelsea – I learnt how to hockey dribble!
SPSSA CHAMPIONS ATHLETICS CARNIVAL POSTPONED
Over the last few days since our interschool athletics carnival, I have had a lot of our kids ask me in great anticipation if they made the champions athletics team!!
We have been told that the Champions Carnival is being postponed to Term 2 and the State Athletics Carnival in Launceston has been postponed to Term 4.
Last week saw our Year 6 Morning Fitness leaders running our Morning Fitness activities for their first time in 2022! We would like to congratulate all of the Year 6 Morning Fitness leaders (and those Year 5’s that stepped up for relief) on their fantastic job during their first week.
Morning Fitness at Molesworth has changed this year, with each class staying together as a group, a small group of Year 6 students leading the same class each term, new activities brainstormed and put together by this year’s leaders and some different locations!

STRIKE SOCCER AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM 2022 TERM 1 UPDATE - MISS KATHRYN GOURLAY, HPE TEACHER
On Monday afternoon, I went down to the oval to see 5 of our Molesworth Primary School soccer superstars practicing their soccer skills at the Strike Soccer Afterschool Program!
Luke, the coach from Strike Soccer was very impressed with each student’s progress.
Here are some comments of each student about what they enjoy about the soccer afterschool program:
- Kit – I like playing goalie. I’m really good at it!
- Jaylen – I like the game where we kick the ball with friends to get the cones for points and run back.
- Claire – I love playing soccer!
- Toby – I like going. I like to kick around the soccer ball. I enjoy kicking the ball and trying to not let it touch the ground. My highest score is 4!
- Theo – I like scoring goals. And I get to play in the playground!

FOOTSTEPS & DRILL DANCE COMPANY
How do you make a tissue dance? You put a little boogie in it!
How do you make our Molesworth students dance? You just put some music on and away they go!
As part of our dance unit this term we are focusing on different styles of dance and learning dance routines. Earlier in the week we had a visit from Chloe from Footsteps. Footsteps are known for delivering engaging dance programs where students experience various dance styles including hip hop, funk, modern pop, and various multicultural dances from around the world, and they did not disappoint! Each group learnt a whole routine in 30 minutes! It was fantastic. Chloe was very happy with our listening skills and everyone’s willingness to give each of her routines a go.
Here are some comments from our dancers:
- Ethan – I loved the stomp and clap move! It had a pretty good rhythm.
- Kailee – I enjoyed the flushing the toilet move because of the splits and at home I practice the splits.
- Darcy C – I liked jumping up and down with our fists up because it feels really good.
- Violet F – I liked the ‘shark bait ooh haha’ move because it’s from finding nemo and that’s my favourite children’s movie.
- Alexia – it was fun!
- Louis – I liked the music.
- Billy – I really really really liked it. I liked the different dance moves.
- Wren – I liked that it was a form of exercise with heaps of movement.
- Ria – I enjoyed the basketball move and I liked the song, I love it.
- Aiden – I liked the shark bait move because there were some different sounds.
- Ashley – I liked all of it!
- Lila – My favourite move was the ‘no deal’ and ‘down’ move. It was so fun.
- Bonnee – I liked fanning my face in the ‘hot hot hot’ dance.
Next Monday we have a visit from DRILL Dance Company, one of Australia’s leading youth dance companies for a try at contemporary style of dance!
