FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MRS LEANNE SMITH
Thank you to all the families who shared in our assemblies last Thursday and Friday. It was lovely to get together to share great learning from all the classrooms. For families unable to attend check out the couple of photos of the then to now of our new learning space, such a difference.
Next week is the annual winter carnival and we congratulate Ruby R from grade 6 who was selected for the netball team. All the best Ruby.
We have a busy next few weeks with Science Week next week and Book Week in week 6. We also have St Johns coming out on 23rd August to run their First Aid in Schools program with each of our classes.
Today we were very lucky to have 3 young scientists visit our 3 older classrooms to share their experiences. It is always great to hear of such varied opportunities for study and careers available to our students in the future. We heard from Karla who is a geologist, Lachy who is a medical researcher and Alex who is a zoologist.
Next week many of our classes will be taking part in online science sessions run by UTAS, which will be yet another opportunity to better understand where an interest in science can lead you.
BOOK WEEK 2021
All classes have been enjoying the sharing of the shortlisted books for this year. These books will be available for all students to borrow from the library after Book Week.
As part of this week, where we celebrate amazing authors and the joys of getting lost in books, we have an open morning for all families on Wednesday 25th August from 8:30 am – 10:00 am. As in previous years the library will be open from 8:30 am until 9:00 am with opportunities to read the short-listed books and do an activity with your child. From 9:00 am until 10:00 am everyone is invited to visit their child’s classroom and work with them on all the amazing literacy focused activities happening. Any amount of time you can give during this time is always appreciated by your children.
As usual there will be the coffee van from 8:15 am to grab yourself a nice warm drink.
THANK YOU
A big thank you to Isla's dad Mark who very kindly delivered some tree stumps for our students to use to further develop their imaginitive play. We would love more if anyone else can help us out.
This term, the 4/5 students are exploring the inquiry, “How We Express Ourselves”. We have been engaging in visual literacy lessons and exploring how authors and illustrators use various techniques, to communicate their ideas using salience, image composition and figurative language.
Each day, as a part of our morning meeting, we have discussed famous artworks and their respective artists. The students have enjoyed creating their own art works in the style of Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.
The house colours will be RED, BLUE and GREEN
and we need your help in
naming them!
Staff will talk with their classes about name suggestions too but we want to include our whole school community in the process. If you have any suggestions of names, please pass them onto your child/children or alternatively the School Office. At the end of Week 6 of this term we will collate all suggestions and the following week when we celebrate National HPE Day, our students will find out what colour house they are in! Families will be placed in the same house colour and each of our 3 sport leaders will lead each house.
When we have carnivals, students will be encouraged to wear an item of clothing in their house colour.
COMMUNICATION TO PARENTS - SATISFACTION SURVEY 2021
2021 School Satisfaction Surveys
Each year the Department of Education conducts School Satisfaction Surveys in Tasmanian Government schools, to gain feedback on what you think our schools do well and where you think we may improve.
We encourage you to complete the survey about Molesworth Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school planning and decision-making.
You can complete the online survey at any time until Friday 17 September 2021.
Survey link: https://ncv.microsoft.com/ygUcGjqhpU
All responses are anonymous and confidential with the survey carried out on a secure website.
Feedback is only accessible to the school principal and teachers and relevant Department of Education staff, in online summary report formats with no individuals or families identifiable.
For any assistance please contact Education Performance and Review by emailing: schoolsurveys@education.tas.gov.au.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
This term the students in Prep/1 J have been investigating the different ways authors can make their writing more interesting, inspirational, and creative.
We have looked at the use of descriptive words. In one of our activities, we had to list all the describing words we could think of to tell others what the Gingerbread Man looks like, smells like, tastes like, sounds like, and feels like.
In another activity we had to use alliteration (the repetition of the same sound) to compose our own sentences using g words.
