FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MRS LEANNE SMITH
A very busy next two weeks with our classes taking part in their first MEC excursions for the year. As always children come back after a day in the bush with so many positive and informative things to say about the day. We are so lucky to have the environment centre as part of our school.
Trading Cards at School:
There are a number of students bringing trading cards including Pokemon cards to school to play with at break times. The nature of the game is about trading cards. If you do not want your child to trade cards when playing please make sure this is fully understood by your child. We are monitoring how they are used and at the moment we are happy for them to be used during break times. If you have any concerns about how they are used at school I am happy to meet with you about it.
We are slowly seeing more and more of the outside area being completed. Unfortunately, there has been a number of hold ups with suppliers, all trades are finding it very difficult to get supplies, especially one off specific items like the hand rails for the ramps and stairs which all have to be individually made. Hopefully by the next newsletter most of the outside space will be completed including new pathways, garden areas and screening in front of the student toilets.
Two events not to miss so make sure the dates are marked in your calendar:
Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th May.
Wednesday 5th May –Luke Kennedy, Inspirational Speaker: 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm in the hall (Dulcie Doman):
Through the generous support of our School Association we are very fortunate to have Luke Kennedy speaking at our school. (See additional article for more information).
Thursday 6th May – Open Classroom morning:
Now all classes are settled in their new spaces we are welcoming families to come in for the morning session to work with their child and share in their learning in their class. The new library space will be open from 8:20 am for all parents with their children to come in to share a story and any of the activities set up for the day. We will then have the classrooms open from 9:00 am until 10:00 am for you to share with your children.
The coffee van will be here so buy yourself a coffee and come and share this amazing school environment with your children. The theme for these sessions will be around mindfulness, emotional intelligence and developing a growth mindset.
No need to book simply mark in your diary and we would love to see you here.
It is lovely to be back at school after our holiday break. Children are very excited to be back catching up with friends. School photos were exciting – and we all put on our best smiles! Looking forward to an action packed term, especially our Molesworth Environment Centre excursion on Wednesday June 23. Please remember any adult wanting to attend the excursion will need a current working with vulnerable people card. Here’s to a happy and action packed term of learning.
In science we have been learning about light and how we can manipulate light to go in different directions so let us enlighten you about what we have been focusing on in Science in Year 5/6 to brighten up your day!
Shadows are made when light hits an object. You can use the light to move the shadow – Meghan
Light can bounce off objects. It is called reflecting – Darcy
The light reflecting was different to what I expected. It is hard to keep track of as the light depleted - Gabe
I was interested in learning about what different objects reflect and don’t reflect - Macy
Light travels in a straight line – Cooper
Light can reflect off things! But not all things - Arrie

TEMPORARY CHANGE TO LACHLAN BUS TRANSFER
The Department of State Growth contacted us to make us aware of roadworks which may affect students travelling to our school from Lachlan for a period of three weeks from Monday 3 May 2021.
Students boarding at any of the six affected bus stops on the Lachlan - New Norfolk school bus service will need to connect with the service at the Lachlan General Store in both the morning and afternoon.
The Department of State Growth has published student specific advice on the transport website here:
The Bus Operator will discuss the disruption with students on board this week. Please make sure if this afffects your children to visit the link above for more details.
Last Term Molesworth Pimary had 3 visits to the Hobart Gymnastics Academy in Bridgewater for our early childhood classes. Our students practised many fundamental movement skills and movement sequences! We practised moving our bodies in new gymnastics shapes including the cat, L sit, rocket and landing! We climbed ladders, ramps and even climbed the big rope that went all the way to the ceiling, some of our students climbed all the way to the top and squeaked the horn! We jumped on the mini trampolines and big trampolines. We completed an obstacle course through the big foam pit. We also practised our artistic gymnastics skills, with the ball and ropes. There were lots of balancing, hanging, supporting our body weight, scootering, jumping, log rolling, egg rolling, backwards rolling and forward rolling activities. We finished the session with a massive colourful parachute! There was a lot of fun to be had at the Hobart Gymnastics Academy, and lots of water drank after our hard work!
Thank you to the coaches at the Hobart Gymnastics Academy for coaching us through the many different activities and demonstrating how to move in a safe way. A thank you as well to the parent helpers that were able to assist our school groups!
PREP-1WY
YEAR 2-3
The first whistle has been blown for the start of the 2021 AFL season! Over the last couple of weeks of Term 1, Molesworth Primary had the pleasure of having Fin and Hollie visit our PE lessons from AFL Tasmania’s North Melbourne Football Club Next Generation School Program. We focussed on developing our AFL skills through playing many new activities and games! We practised, our throwing, catching, marking, partner work, communication, kicking, hand balling and ball movement. We played ‘AFL salad’, ‘footy tag’ and ‘rob the footies’. The next time you see a Molesworth student you should ask them about these new games or show you their fantastic handballing, marking and kicking skills!
Thank you to Fin and Hollie from AFL Tasmania’s North Melbourne Football Club Next Generation School Program for visiting us and passing on their knowledge and skills!
It is wonderful to visit all the settled classrooms this term. It is also great to have our library back in its original home. Thanks to Keema and all her helpers for setting up the space so brilliantly. On Monday we saw our first classes in the warm, welcoming space. We are looking forward to sharing this space with everyone next Thursday at our open morning.
WOOLWORTHS CRICKET BLAST NEW NORFOLK SCHOOL CUP
On the last day of Term 1 our 3/4, 4/5 and 5/6 classes jumped onto a bus ready to play some cricket at Tynwald Park! It was a scorching day; I’m sure Tim Paine would say perfect conditions for some cricket! We entered 9 mixed Molesworth teams into the New Norfolk School cup and played against 5 other schools from the Derwent Valley area! It was great to see the Molesworth Spirit come alive with a lot of positive encouragement from our teams. Each team played 3 games throughout the day. At lunch time two of our year 6 students were selected to represent our school for the highest catch competition. With a heavy focus on cricket in the lead up to this event in PE, it was awesome to see Hamish and Alona make the final two!
Here are some of our thoughts about the day:
I liked the hot weather! I enjoyed batting - Cooper
I liked all of it! Batting was my favourite - Claire
I enjoyed watching the high catching – Aiden
I liked competing against other schools – Ria
I like when you could hit the ball really far! – Riley
I liked batting. It was both easy and hard! – Ella
It was a fun trip! It was good to get outside - Hamish
Well done to all our students on a lovely last day of term 1.
What’s the best time to go to the dentist? Tooth-hurty (2:30)!
Yesterday all of our students at Molesworth Primary discussed dental hygiene! Some of the most important messages for our students were: brushing our teeth twice a day using fluoride toothpaste, brushing our tongue and gums as well, brushing for 2 minutes, why we need to look after our teeth and why having regular check-ups is important. Quiz your child/children on the important parts of dental hygiene and they should be able answer your questions!
Each student received a Colgate dental kit that they took home with them! There is additional information in the pack as well as a toothbrush, tooth paste and a magnet.
