FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MRS LEANNE SMITH
Welcome to week 4, how quickly the first month has gone by. All classes are very settled and so much great learning happening throughout the school.
As I am sure you have all noticed the building construction continues. We were hoping for changeover on Friday, however there have been a number of delays with goods coming from the mainland so we now have a new date of the 5th March. This week we have had all the pathways around the building poured and the ramps well underway. Next week the artificial turf around the concrete will go in and the carpeting and final touches inside. Once we have the keys handed over we will be coordinating the moving of classes one class at a time. By the end of the term everyone will be in their new classrooms and we will have our hall space back for music and PE and the library will be back in its original home.
We are planning early next term for an open classroom session where parents can join in with their children in their class to share a fun session of learning in their new space. Keep an eye out in the newsletter and on Facebook for more details later in the term.

SRC AND SPORT LEADER ELECTIONS 2021
This week on Tuesday morning, ten of our grade six students ran for S.R.C. and sports leaders. There are four position to be filled for SRC and three for sports leaders.
This is what some of the students running for S.R.C and sports leaders thought of the day.
Iestyn – “Nerve-racking, but fun”
Maddie - ”It was scary at first but once you finished your speech it was fine”
Macy – “It was so nerve racking but once done, it was okay”
Meghan – “It was very exciting!”
Hamish – “The most scary but fun thing I’ve ever done!”
All the grade six students did a brilliant job presenting their speeches. They were fantastic, everyone’s speeches were unique and had their own perks.
We’re proud of the classes that participated in being the audience, they were attentive listeners.
All students from grade three and up voted on the day and we are all looking forward to hearing the results.

Hello everyone!
I’m really looking forward to music this year with more opportunities to create, sing, move, dance along to and play music with the students at Molesworth.
To start the year we have focussed on how to respectfully use the instruments in class. Years 3 to 6 will also spend time developing their ukulele skills to use along with our xylophones. Everyone is also working on their singing, developing their rhythm skills, and note reading knowledge. As the year progresses we will have access to more instruments to use which will enable us to be even more creative after we move back up into the hall.
Music is great for kids’ development and learning as it taps into their creativity, teamwork, sharing and cross-body motor skills engaging all the senses while they learn. If your child gets the opportunity to learn an instrument it’s a great thing they can do and many studies have shown learning a musical instrument helps across all learning areas.
A few questions for the kids and parents….
- Why do we have the colour stickers on the xylophones and ukuleles? There’s a few reasons why.
- What are these music symbols called?
Can you have a think about them and tell me in music next time everyone?
Pre-Kinder: Commences on Thursday 25 February from 1:15 pm - 2:15 pm. A semi-structured program for 3-4 year olds who will be attending Kinder in 2022. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Playgroup will commence on Friday 26 February. This is a program for Birth to 4 year olds and their parents each Friday from 8:45 am - 10:15 am in the Kindergarten classroom. This is an informal session for parents/carers and an opportunity for children to play and make friends while learning. Enrolment forms for both sessions are available from the school office.
Parents/Carers please note that due to COVID19 restrictions, for the time being we are still only accepting children from the Molesworth Primary School intake area for these sessions.
It has been an exciting and delightful start to Term 1 in 2-3 Jacobson. Our class has been discussing the meaning of the word ‘kindness’ and what kindness looks, sounds and feels like in the classroom and playground.
After reading ‘Kookoo the Kookaburra’ by Greg Dreise students recreated their own ‘Kindness kookaburras’ using natural materials they collected themselves to remind us of the main idea of the story that ‘kindness is something that returns when you offer it to others’.
This week students have started participating in a ‘Kindness challenge’ to help create a culture of kindness. Each day challenges students to something new, something kind and something to promote positivity within yourself, others and our world.

Take your marks, set, go! We have taken off in PE 2021 with a focus on Athletics! We have had the pleasure of having Jade from Little Athletics coming to visit us over the past couple of weeks. She ran many different athletic based activities and games with us. Some fun new games we had never played before! We practiced our jumping, running, egg and spoon events, three-legged races, throwing, putting and relays. And everyone received a wrist band at the end of the session!
We thank Little Athletics for our wrist bands that everyone received at the end of the sessions and for this great opportunity for our students to further develop their athletics skills and learn some new skills in preparation for our Year 3-6 Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 2nd March 2020 at 9:00 am.
