FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MRS LEANNE SMITH
It is so lovely to feel Spring in the air, with the mud gone the children are enjoying the oval, netball court and playground again. As we head towards the warmer days please check that your child’s jumpers are clearly labelled so we can return them if found out and about.
This week the builders continue to prepare the base for the floor to be poured and the plumbers have been very busy connecting all the new pipelines to the original pipes to make sure we are maximising our water collection from all the gutters. The students enjoyed watching the new water tanks arrive and get rolled down to their new position behind the MEC. Each week it is great to chat with the students about what is happening and why. So many questions from inquisitive young minds.
Over the past couple of weeks students have been engaged in a unique way to collect student wellbeing data by completing a game called Rumbles Quest. Students have loved playing the game and the data collected will be a great resource for us for future planning around student wellbeing.
MOLESWORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION - NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Notice is hereby given that the Molesworth Primary School Association Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 22 September 2020 commencing at 4:15 pm in the School Library.
At the conclusion of the AGM, an ordinary meeting of the School Association will be held.
Due to the requirement to socially distance, if you are attending, please contact the school Office on 62612 091.
Year 1/2 have been working with buttons in Maths. We have counted them, measured them and sorted them. This week we will be using them for grouping.
We also spent an interesting session with Grade 2/3 who shared their digital 'Who Am I?' puzzles with us.
Over the past few weeks, we have focused on hockey in our PE lessons. We would like to thank Luc from Hockey Tasmania, who currently represents our state in the Tasmanian Under 21 team, for coming out to Molesworth and teaching us some hockey skills and fun games. I think in the coming years the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos might potentially have some players from Molesworth!
On Thursday the 3rd of September the Year 5-6 and 3-4 classes travelled to The Tasmanian Hockey Centre to tour the sporting facilities, test out their new hockey skills on the turf and had the opportunity to be coached by some Tasmanian accredited coaches. We would like to thank Tania Barry, Luc and Camilla for this amazing opportunity for our students. Thank you to Stacey Hills, Nigel Graham and Mandy Richardson for accompanying our classes!
Here are some comments from our students:
Leif – I enjoyed the match we played. I found it really fun playing on the hockey turf.
Katie – It was challenging to juggle the hockey ball on our sticks but it was fun!
Aaleyah – I enjoyed aiming for the hockey goals!
Brilee – I really liked how we played a game of hockey with the hockey sticks and a real hockey ball!
Lucas – My favourite part of the day was when we all played together. I would like to go again one day to play.
Logan – My favourite thing about the day were the hockey games because I got to play with my friends!
Ziva – We were greeted with open arms by Tania that works at the hockey centre. She instructed us to put on shin pads and find a hockey stick.
Kinder Unicorns have enjoyed an action packed Term 3, one filled with learning, laughs and fun. We are strengthening our friendships and understanding how to successfully work together as a team.
Being active and challenging ourselves physically is a daily occurrence in kinder. Children are constantly using their imagination to create new exciting games. Be it jumping, climbing, hopping, or balancing, children spend their outdoors time working cooperatively to achieve new personal bests! A favourite challenge at the moment is building and creating trenches and lakes. It is wonderful to hear the children encouraging each other, offering advice on how best to succeed and taking turns.
We have particularly enjoyed the chilly mornings in our playground. Children have delighted in discovering ice in various locations. There have been many conversations around where the ice goes and why some mornings have been frosty outside. The past week has also brought the Spring weather to Molesworth. We are loving hunting for blossoms and using them in our outdoor play.
The opportunities to discover and learn are certainly all around us!
GREAT AUSTRALIAN CROSS COUNTRY CHALLENGE RESULTS 2020
A fantastic achievement by our Molesworth Primary students who registered for the GACCC! With the challenge now finished, we would like to congratulate the following students for their outstanding effort in their year level category; Adam (Year 1), Lily (Year 3) and Shaun (Year 6).
NATIONAL HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION DAY 2020
Health & Physical Education (HPE) Day is a nationwide initiative that highlights the importance of HPE and its influence on the learning and development of children. Research shows that children’s participation in physical activity leads to better student engagement, improved academic achievement, encourages lifelong participation and better health outcomes in adult life!
Whether you’re a parent, caregiver or teacher - everyone has a role to play in helping young people take a step towards leading healthier and happier lives. To help celebrate National HPE Day on September 2nd 2020 our Morning Fitness leaders ran an additional session for our students!
Not only is HPE an important part of the school environment, but it also extends to the local community and at home. It’s not only a chance to put a busy life on hold and enjoy some quality time with the kids, but it can also make a substantial difference to their health by encouraging good habits that can stay with them for the rest of their life. Here are some great ideas to consider;
- Online classes/interactive videos (i.e. Thai chi, yoga, Zumba, Just Dance)
- Learn from grandparents and/or parents the games they used to play and play them at home
- Sport at local clubs (i.e. basketball, karate, cricket, soccer, bowls, AFL, gymnastics)
- Creating own games and/or an obstacle course with family
- Playing Frisbee, flying a kite, or tag at Tynwald Park
- Skipping at home or playing hopscotch in the backyard
- Going to a park or skate park to play on play equipment
- Organised sports closer into the city (i.e. netball, hockey, tennis)
- Scouts
- Heading to the community swimming pool and/or out of school swim classes
- Going for a walk or riding the bike/skateboard
