FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MRS LEANNE SMITH
Welcome to Term 3 and what a busy one it is going to be.
It was so lovely to see our LiL and Pre-Kinder families back last week experiencing all the new play experiences in the Kinder room and out in the yard. We now have a set of musical instruments on the fence to play, a steering wheel to be the pilot of a plane or the driver of a bus or truck or whatever the children want it to be permanently in the playground as well as so many wonderful new areas inside. If you know your child is kinder age next year and in area, please contact the office for enrolment forms.
The Prep class are very settled in their new space for all their learning for the rest of the year. From day one they found their new hooks for their bags and headed into the classroom ready to go. The grade 1/2 class and the grade 4/5 class now have bag boxes, which are currently being sealed and will be back on the deck and in the classroom from next week.
During the holidays Gavin Barber was busy removing a wall in the library so we now have the space to continue library lessons and music lessons in the space until the build is completed.
As I’m sure many of you have seen the build is underway, with the removal of the Prep room and the marking out of all the water lines the first major jobs to do. Today we saw most of the roof removed from the classroom. It is a great opportunity for all classes to observe just how a building is created and all the work that needs to be done. It is going to be very exciting to watch it develop throughout the rest of the year ready for use from the start of 2021. Keep an eye out on Facebook for regular updates.
Last week we saw schools back visiting the MEC and today our 2/3 class had their excursion and our 1/2 class are tomorrow. Over the next few weeks all classes will have their excursions. During Term 2 we had a videographer visit the centre to create a video as part of a DoE initiative sharing all the environment centres throughout the state. As part of this he has also produced a video of just our centre. This is currently having its final touches added to it and hopefully in the next week or two it will be ready to share with everyone. Thanks to the 4/5 students who participated in this day to show how students engage with our environment.
Thanks to all families who are following the current guidelines with keeping class visits to the minimum. As we are not having regular assemblies, we have a grade 6 team who are very busy preparing a virtual assembly which should be completed ready for sharing by week 4 – keep a look our for it via Seesaw.

In the final weeks of last term we had a very special visit from a 5 time Australian Olympic Athlete! Anthony Edwards, who is of course Hamish’s Dad in year 4/5, came in to speak with us about the Olympics and his own experiences throughout is amazingly long and successful career with rowing.
Anthony spoke to us about the successes and also challenges he has faced during his career and how he overcame these. In his presentation he showed us different medals that he had won. Each medal he had held a different memory and emotion for Anthony and he shared some powerful messages with us. Anthony also brought along his Sydney 2000 Olympics torch and his Athens 2004 Olympics torch. We would like say a huge thank you to Anthony for sharing his own experiences, medals and memorabilia with us at Molesworth. A very memorable experience for our students!

YEAR 1-2 CLASS EXCURSION WITH MEC – ANIMALS AT RISK - THURSDAY 30 JULY, 2020
Tomorrow 30 July the students from Year 1-2 will be working with Mr Felmingham and Mrs MacGregor at the Molesworth Environment Centre to discover what is unique about Tasmanian animals. This will support in their life cycle inquiry for this term, with the aim that the students will understand the threats faced by native animals in their local habitat.
As they will be out of the school grounds for part of the day can you please ensure for Thursday your child has:
- appropriate clothing (not school uniform) for outdoor wear;
- sensible closed toe walking shoes;
- raincoat;
- A packed lunch and a drink bottle.
All permission slips should have already been returned to school to allow participation in this excursion.
MOLESWORTH PRIMARY YEAR 4-5 MOUNT FIELD NATIONAL PARK - FRIDAY 7 AUGUST, 2020
On 7 August, Year 4-5 students will be going on an excursion to Mt Field National Park to study the fungi and plant life with Mr Felmingham and Mrs MacGregor from the Molesworth Environment Centre. They will investigate along the Russell Falls track and the Tall Trees Walk.
They will be leaving school at 8:45 am as soon as the bell goes, so they can travel up in good time and make the most of their day. If you would like to join us please let me know ASAP as there are limited spaces on the bus.
Remember to please sign in at the School Office before 8:45 am, as it is a requirement for all volunteers to have their RWVP (Working With Vulnerable People) Card which needs to be sighted and you will be given a lanyard for the day to hold your card in. Also, a COVID-19 Visitor Health Screening Form needs to be completed before leaving.
When they arrive, Mr Felmingham and Mrs MacGregor will talk to the children all about what they will be studying. The will each work with a group of students, with plant and fungi “flip guides” and magnifying lupes to help identify.
The aim is to take their time when walking and really look at the variety of plants, where they grow, and also the places we find fungi. School iPads may be used on the excursion as they want as many photos taken as possible so they can continue their studies back at school over the next few weeks. You never know, they may discover a new species!!
Things to remember: A packed lunch and water bottle; wet weather gear, long trousers and socks tucked over trousers so those leeches don’t get a look in!; an inquiring mind and a great attitude!
Permission slips have been sent home and need to be returned to school no later than Thursday 6 August to all participation in this excursion.
The SRC are up and running again selling Icy-Poles and Ice-Creams every Thursday in the undercover area. The proceeds from this go towards the Year 6 Leavers Day in Term 4.
